Missed opportunity for green products
This would have been a brilliant marketing and educational opportunity for Seventh Generation, Method and others and it sounds like they missed it.
These companies and others like them (big green brands and smaller ones) have an excellent opportunity to track this type of legislation and leverage creative marketing ideas to showcase their product's benefits beyond the environmental - for that is the only way they are going to increase their market share.
Phosphate Free at what cost
I used to use the short, 90 minute, cycle on my dishwasher now I have to use the normal cycle (two hours, plus an extra rinse to get my dishes clean. This means I use more water and more electricity which will make our community well go dry sooner and have the possibility of brownouts. Seems like a step backwards to me!! Although these regulations don't surprise me, just another case of the government getting it wrong.
