I didn't get to go to this design conference, but wish I could have. Thanks for the great write-up!

Sustainability is the great design constraint, and too little recognized. I actually think there are a couple other interconnected aspects of sustainability: sustainability of health and social sustainability. If the designer thinks about how these systems connect to human behavior and environment, then we're on the right track.
