A Note from the Editor
By Joel Makower
Welcome to the premiere issue of Greener Design News, the latest in our growing stable of newsletters on the greening of mainstream business. This one focuses on green product innovation and design -- how companies are rethinking how they design, manufacture, and market products for both consumer and business markets.
Please understand: This isn't just about "greening up" products, but also about inventing new ones, including new business models and entire new systems of commerce, that reduce waste and toxicity, improve efficiency, close the loop, and create new business opportunities. That's the nature of the conversation taking place inside a growing number of companies.
Greener Design News follows on the heels of our highly successful conference, Greener by Design,' at which attendees heard companies as varied as Dupont, General Electric, Nike, Procter & Gamble, and Xerox talk about how they're integrating green thinking into their product designs and supply chains. We'll feature some of the fruits of that event, as well as introduce dozens of new voices -- designers, brand managers, packaging gurus, and many others -- from both large and small companies.
As always, we welcome your ideas and feedback about how to make this publication useful to your work. And we welcome your contributions -- press releases, guest columns, and case studies.
So jump on board. The green design train is leaving the station. We'll look forward to your joining us on the journey in the months ahead.
